"Pacheco called me to see how I was doing and I told him I'd had it with the whole band thing. He said we should just get together and play music and stop thinking about it so much. We wrote this tune. The end jam is one of my favorite bits on the album. I miss Posi, the pianist, who brought so much to the group, and to this track. And Pacheco es mi pana... great player, solid friend."
lyrics
I try to hold onto the days,
They slip away, slip away.
I woke up this morning
With a stone in my gut.
You could hear the road calling
And my heart screaming: But! But! But!
I know our days together
Can be counted on the fingers of my left hand.
So with the fingers on my right,
With all of my might,
I’m gonna hold on as long as I can.
I try to hold onto the days,
They slip away, slip away.
Like the clock that’s ticking,
My heart beats steady and true,
So in love with you.
Like the river rolling,
I know tomorrow you’re going,
Nothing I can do.
Si pudiera, te hacía quedar
Para siempre a mi lado estar
Y más nunca salir a vagar
Dejándome sola, tal playa sin ola.
I try to hold onto the days
They slip away, slip away.
El tiempo vuela.
Y los días se deslizan de mis manos.
